Interview with Fred

Fred Sager, lacrosse goalie prodigy or doctor? He was born in Atlanta, Georgia on June 28th 1998. He has two twin sisters, Annie and Ellie, whom he loves very much and protects very much as well. He started at Holy Innocents’ in fifth grade. He first went to Morris Brandon. He is a great student who makes most A’s and some B’s. He has never failed a class or a grade. During his free time he enjoys going mountain biking with his friends and playing lacrosse with his team at Coast to Coast.

Lacrosse is something that Fred might want to do in college. He would prefer to be a doctor and not a lacrosse player. He is interested in two schools, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and the University of Denver. He likes Denver because he loves the snow and also the mountains so he could mountain bike and also ski. Last summer Fred went to Colorado on a trip called the Moondance Adventures. As we talked about this he told me “ this was the time when I truly began to like Colorado and this experience has made me want to go back”. During this trip, he went whitewater rafting to a beach along a river, the next day he whitewater rafted back to where they started, he also went zip lining and visited some sand dunes. He says that climbing up the sand dunes, which were the highest in the United States, was probably the hardest thing he has ever done in his life because he had to carry all of his stuff in the backpack which probably weighed around 20 pounds and every step he took he would go back two because of the water pushing against him. He then went backpacking for a total of 15 miles to the city of Crested Butte where they ended their trip. I asked him why he loved this trip so much and he told me “this trip made me love nature and the sites of Colorado”.

His other choice of college is the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill because his dad went there and he loves the campus. He also told me that he loves the school academics and he is a big fan of their lacrosse team. When Fred graduates from holy Innocents he wants to pursue his dream at being a hand specialist. He wants to be a hand specialist because he has had a lot of hand related injuries, he broke his thumb last year playing goalie in lacrosse and he also broke his pinky a few years back. “I think I will probably break my thumb again because all goalies break their thumbs”, Fred told me as we spoke about his injuries. His injuries have inspired him to want to know more about the human hand and how everything works in it. These injuries have not stopped Fred from doing what he enjoys the most, which is play lacrosse.

The injuries have only been a minor step back for him, as he always gets back to play with the JV team and start for them. He was able to lead his team to many wins with all the saves he had. Fred will continue to play lacrosse through his four years in high school. Fred currently lives a very enjoyable life with his friends and family.
